C.L.I.T.S
Community-Led Interventions Transforming Street Families
About the Project
C.L.I.T.S (Community-Led Interventions Transforming Street families) is ASOH's innovative program addressing the complex challenges faced by street-connected children and families in urban areas across Africa. This project recognizes that street families require comprehensive, dignified, and community-driven solutions that address root causes rather than symptoms.
Through C.L.I.T.S, we provide mentorship, rehabilitation services, skills training, and family reunification support. The project emphasizes community ownership and leadership, working with local leaders, social workers, and former street youth to create sustainable pathways off the streets. We focus on building dignity, restoring hope, and empowering individuals to reclaim their place in society.
The project takes a phased approach: outreach and relationship building, assessment and planning, rehabilitation and skills training, and finally reintegration and follow-up support. Each individual receives personalized attention and support tailored to their unique circumstances and aspirations.
Project Goals
Build trust and relationships with street families through respectful, consistent, and compassionate engagement.
Address physical, emotional, and psychological needs through counseling, healthcare, and trauma healing.
Provide vocational training, life skills, and entrepreneurship support to enable economic independence.
Facilitate family reunification or alternative safe housing with ongoing support and mentorship.
Our Impact
Transformation Story
"I lived on the streets for three years after my family situation became unbearable. C.L.I.T.S found me, but more importantly, they saw me - not as a problem but as a person with potential. Through their mentorship program, I learned carpentry and received counseling that helped me heal. Today, I have my own small workshop and have reconnected with my family. I'm even mentoring other young people in the program. C.L.I.T.S gave me back my life and my dignity." - Peter, 22, Program Graduate & Peer Mentor
